LAUREN WOODS - VOICE & Musical Theatre
Lauren Woods (soprano) has performed in operas, recitals and oratorio from coast to coast. As a born-and-raised Calgarian, she was thrilled to return home as one of Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artists in 2016-2017. Lauren is a prominent soloist in Alberta, and most recently performed Bach’s B minor mass with the Juno-nominated Luminous Voices. She has also performed Handel’s Messiah with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra, the Mozart Requiem with Luminous Voices, and Bach’s St. John Passion with the Festival Chorus. Notable performances include Brenda in Rene Orth’s Empty the house, the title role in Rodelinda, Amy in Little Women (Opera McGill), the title role in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Adina in Elixir of Love, Musetta in La Boheme, the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Gretel in Hansel und Gretel (Cowtown Opera), Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro (Opera NUOVA), Gilda in Rigoletto, Sophie in Werther (CCOC), Nanetta in Falstaff, and Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte in the Czech republic, Ontario and Vancouver (UBC).
In 2016, Lauren was a finalist in the Wirth Vocal competition at McGill and was one of 6 singers chosen to represent Canada at the international Belvedere competition in Amsterdam. She performed with Mercury Opera in Edmonton’s 104 Underground, which was featured in the OMNI TV documentary of the same name. Lauren completed a master’s in Voice at McGill, a bachelor’s degree in Opera at UBC, and a vocal performance diploma at Mount Royal University. This upcoming year, she is excited to be performing Adele in die Fledermaus, as well as Strauss’s 4th Symphony with the Calgary Civic Symphony. Lauren is sought after as a vocal coach and has a thriving private studio.
